Can you really profit from trade uncertainty?

Strategies needed to drive sustainable growth

Can I ask you something?

When you hear the word "tariffs," what's the first thing that happens?

For most manufacturers I talk to, the answer is the same.

They freeze.

And I understand why. The noise is loud. Price fluctuations and fear dominate the news cycle. It feels like the responsible move is to hold your position and wait for clarity.

But here is what I've come to believe after working with manufacturers in this space.

The tariff problem is not actually out there.

It's in here.

Specifically, it's in the strategy.

If your product is a commodity, tariffs will hurt. There is no way around that. A commodity competes on price, and when tariffs add pressure to price, the business model cracks.

But if you have something so unique, so special, so in-demand that customers seek you out, tariffs should not have the impact that a commodity will struggle with.

That's not wishful thinking. That is differentiation doing its job.

And here is where it gets interesting.

When fear-driven competitors pull back from markets, they leave space. Real space. The manufacturers who move into that space right now are the ones entering markets with less competition, building customer relationships before rivals return, and establishing a reputation that compounds over time.

The businesses adding 20% to 30% in new revenues are not the ones who waited.

They are the ones who treated the uncertainty as the signal.

The real work is building the right foundation: a solid go-to-market plan, a built-in pivot plan for when conditions shift, and research into markets with existing trade agreements that reduce exposure before you even start.

That is what turns tariffs from a threat into a filter.

And when the filter clears out your competitors, you are already on the other side of it.

Does this land for you?
